About Crayons and Spice

About the Blog:

Crayons and Spice is a site parents can come to get ideas on how to create with and for their child. I chose the name “Crayons and Spice” because creativity takes many forms. It can be using crayons at a desk, spices in the kitchen, or many other things. I am a big proponent of letting even the youngest of kids create. It is OK if the end result is messy. It does not need to be what an adult would consider successful. I try to make the projects simple so you don’t need to be a craft expert to follow along and make these things with or for your own kiddo. I also try to use what you probably already have laying around the house. So please look around and be inspired to create.

About Me:

Picture of Emily

Hi, my name is Emily. I am a stay at home mom to a 3 year old daughter and a 2 year old son. I was a software developer before my daughter was born, but have always balanced my logical side with a creative side. My mom is responsible for my desire to create and I hope to pass that on to my kids. I wanted to start this blog to help foster my creativity. It has pushed me to take the time to create for and with my kids. This has been a huge blessing. I hope to empower you to do the same. My favorite project on Crayons and Spice is my daughter’s bubble wrap octopuses.

My Kids:

3 year old girl:

My daughter is a color-aholic. She will happily color with markers, colored pencils, pens, or crayons for hours. She has a huge imagination and her elephant lovey named Lumpy loves to do everything with her. She loves learning, telling stories, and will talk anyone’s ear off that will let her. Her favorite project on Crayons and Spice is making Shrinky Dink keychains for her friends.

2 year old boy:

My son loves exploring, climbing, and getting into everything. All I have to do is say the word help and he is by my side wanting in on the action. This goes for crafting (especially painting) as well. He still makes quite the mess with pretty much any craft supply, but has a blast doing it. His favorite project on Crayons and Spice is the paper mache balls for his party (coming soon).
