What comes to mind when you think of crafts materials or mediums that start with C? Crayons, colored pencils, chalk, cardboard, or construction paper? What about chocolate chip cookies? Once again, I wanted us to make our alphabet craft out of something that starts with the same letter. I decided to skip right over all the more obvious C craft supplies. Instead, my three year old daughter and I made a chocolate chip cookie C is for cat craft. I think we should get extra points for three C’s in a row.

My three year old daughter loves helping in the kitchen. Chocolate chips cookies might be her favorite thing to make (and eat). She was super excited to not only make cookies, but make a craft out of the cookie dough. I also used this cookie making adventure as my 17 month old son’s kitchen debut. He hadn’t helped cook anything yet, but has been up and down the kitchen tower all week long.

How to Make a C is for Cat Craft With Letter C Craft Supplies

Materials:

Making the C Shaped Cookie:

First, you need to make cookie dough. If making cookie dough with kids isn’t your thing, you can use premade plain cookie dough instead. I use a very similar recipe to the Toll House chocolate chip cookie recipe. Both of my kids helped mix up the dough. My daughter has helped me several times before, but this was my son’s first time. He got his own spatula that he occasionally sort of stirred with. Make sure to leave out the chocolate chips for now.

Next, you need to make the basic C shape. My daughter started to roll out a long string of cookie dough and I helped make it a little thinner and longer. Then, I laid it out on a cookie sheet in the shape of a C. My daughter patted it down to make it a bit flatter.

Decorating the Cat Cookie:

Now it was time to decorate. I handed my daughter ear, whisker, and tail shapes made from cookie dough for her to place on the body. I also gave her chocolate chips for the eyes, nose, and stripes.

Once it was all together, I put it in the oven and cooked it for the time stated on the recipe. Meanwhile, I had my kids mix chocolate chips into the rest of the cookie dough to make normal cookies with. After the cookie started to turn golden brown, I took it out of the oven.

Sadly, the whiskers were barely visible. So, I decided to have my daughter paint the whiskers back on with chocolate. After the cookie sheet was cool enough to touch, I melted some more chocolate chips on a plate. I showed my daughter how to use a toothpick to paint the whiskers back on with the melted chocolate. Before she started, I ran the toothpick across the cookie to create a groove my daughter could follow.

Once the whiskers were back on, our C is for cat craft was complete. We waited to show it to my husband, named it Catty, and then ate it.

Conclusion of Making a C is for Cat Craft

C is also for cookie crumb covered children. By the time we finished both of my kids were pretty messy. My daughter had a lot of fun making her C is for cat craft and my son was very happy he got to help stir. It impressed me that after baking, the cookie still looked like a C shaped cat. Overall, it was a fun and yummy success. My daughter and I talked about words starting with C the rest of the day. What is your go to type of cookie to bake?
