This year has flown by and suddenly it is already October. Although, it doesn’t feel much like Fall with green leaves all around and my kids playing in the sprinkler just this morning. So, it is a great time to do an easy pumpkin craft for kids to get in the Autumn spirit. This simple craft uses very few supplies and can be done (and enjoyed) by a large range of kids. Keep reading and learn how to make it with your own family.

How to Make a Pumpkin Craft for Kids
Supplies:
- Coffee filters
- Markers
- Black and green construction paper
- Glue stick
How to Tie Dye the Coffee Filter:
A while back, we made tie dye butterflies and Father’s Day cards with paper towels. I used the same concept to make these neat jack o’lanterns. First, I stacked two coffee filters on top of each other and had my kids (3 1/2 and 1 1/2) color the top one on the stack. I placed them on top of a sheet of paper to minimize mess and had them use red, orange, and yellow markers. It took a bit of convincing, but I got them to cover them as much as possible.

Then, I placed their colored coffee filters on some paper towels on a cookie sheet.

I filled a small bowl with water and had them dip their hands in it and flick it all over their coffee filter. We watched the water spread and kept flicking until they were completely wet.

A few hours later, their easy pumpkin crafts were dry. I peeled the stacked coffee filters apart and we were ready to go on to the next step.

How to Turn the Pumpkin Into a Jack O’Lantern:
Next, I printed out several different Jack O’Lantern faces from Skip to My Lou. I showed them to my kids and let them pick their favorite mouth, eyes, and nose. I traced those ones on a piece of black construction paper and cut them out. Then, I cut stem and leaf shapes out of the green paper.
Finally, I gave the cutouts to my kids along with a glue stick to glue the faces on. My 3 1/2 year old daughter made two, my 1 1/2 year old son made one, and I made one.

Our cute coffee filter Jack O’Lanterns were now ready to be hung up and enjoyed for the Fall season.

Conclusion of Our Easy Pumpkin Craft for Kids
I love this method of “tie dying” that takes no special supplies and is still super fun. We actually made these simple coffee filter pumpkins last year. But, I lost the pictures until today. I forgot how much fun we had making them and how cool they turned out. Now I need to come up with a similar craft to get us going for the Fall season again.
