G is for Giraffe Craft: Glitter, Glitter Glue, and Googly Eyes

While I prepped this craft, my three year old daughter “read” to her stuffed elephant lovey named Lumpy. She has used glitter glue a lot, but has only used normal glitter once when we made window clings. When I was ready to get started, my daughter said she needed to finish Lumpy’s book first. Well, until I told her that this craft used glitter. Then suddenly Lumpy finished her book and I had a preschooler excitedly running over to get started on our G is for giraffe craft.

How to Make a G is for Giraffe Craft With Craft Supplies Starting With G

Materials:

Prep for G is for Giraffe Craft:

Before my preschooler got involved, I prepped a few things. First, I went to Clip Safari and printed out a picture of a giraffe. Then, I cut out just the head. Next, I drew a big letter G on a piece of cardstock. I wanted something that was a little thicker to stand up better to the glitter glue. You can use whatever kind of paper you would like.

Making the G Shaped Giraffe:

Once I had everything ready, I called my daughter over. I asked her to squeeze yellow glitter glue out all over the G and then spread it out with a paintbrush.

Then, I showed her how to quickly turn over the brown glitter to make spots on the G is for giraffe craft. I pointed out areas along the G that didn’t have any spots and she made them there.

Next, I gave her the giraffe head. There was enough glitter glue everywhere at this point, I had her just stick it where it went. It stuck, but the glitter glue unfortunately made the ink on the paper run. It would be better to wait for everything to dry and then glue the head on with a glue stick.

Lastly, to add another G to our craft, I gave my daughter a bottle of white glue and two googly eyes. She glued them on over the eyes in the picture.

Finishing Touches:

Our G is for giraffe craft took forever to dry. Once it finally did, I cut out the G shaped giraffe and glued it on a piece of yellow cardstock. Then, I traced around it with a black Sharpie. These steps are completely optional, but I thought that it helped the letter G pop out a little bit more.

Conclusion of our G is for Giraffe Craft:

My daughter loved all the glitter in this craft. It was one of our quicker alphabet crafts, but I think she would have happily kept putting glitter on things. I am a little disappointed that the glitter glue messed up the head, but as mentioned above it is easy to prevent. Also, the yellow glitter glue didn’t show up as much as I expected. But, overall it was a fun and simple G is for giraffe craft. Does your child like glitter glue or glitter better?
