My 4 year old daughter had so much fun with this craft that for a few weeks she wanted to pour water on all her drawings to make them “even prettier.” She loved watching the colors spread and mix on our tie dye tissue paper. It took us several attempts to get the colors dark enough, but eventually we found a fun, simple, and low mess way to do it.

How to Tie Dye Tissue Paper
Materials:
Step 1- Coloring the Tissue Paper:
First, take your piece of white tissue paper and color it with markers. You can color it with any set of colors and patterns. But, color as much of it as you can. If you don’t color it enough the design will end up very light.
My daughter didn’t have the patience to color the tissue paper all the way, but it still turned out pretty good.
Step 2- Tie Dying the Tissue Paper:
Next, get the tie dye effect by adding water. Place your colored tissue paper on a plastic tablecloth to prevent the marker from soaking through to your table. Use a dropper and a small container of water and let your child place drops on the tissue paper. This part is really fun to watch. You can see the water spreading, but can’t quite tell yet how your design is going to look. Make sure the entire piece of tissue paper is wet.
Both of my kids were able to help with this step. It is a lot of fun watching the colors spread and blend.
Step 3- Drying the Tissue Paper:
Lastly, let your tissue paper dry. Now you can see the fun design your colors mixed into. If you want a nice flat piece of tie dye tissue paper, you can iron it.
Conclusion of Making Tie Dye Tissue Paper
My daughter enjoyed making tie dye tissue paper. She didn’t color on hers quite enough to make super vibrant colors, but she still liked it. My two year old son didn’t have the patience to color nearly enough on a piece of tissue paper, but he did enjoy dropping water on it. We used the tissue paper we made to make a friend’s birthday present extra fun and special.
