This I is for iguana craft might be my favorite alphabet craft so far. I was a hard letter to come up with craft supplies for. So, my three year old daughter and I ended up doing two new activities that we hadn’t done before. I love that our alphabet crafts have forced us to try things I wouldn’t have considered otherwise. For our iguana we learned how to paint with ice (ice) and make our own stamps (ink). I normally struggle to include my 18 month old son in our crafts, but he was able to take part in both new activities.

How to Make an I is for Iguana Craft With Letter I Craft Supplies

Materials:

Making the Iguana’s Body:

To make the iguana’s body you need to start by drawing a large capital I on a piece of paper. You can see in the cover picture that there are several pieces of paper glued together. My daughter ran out of room several times while making this and I had to keep giving her more space. To avoid this, draw your I with plenty of space above and below it.

Then, it is time for your child to color in the letter I using a green ice paint. Ice paints are really simple to make and you can learn how I made mine here. When I made them a few days ago, I made an extra green one to use for this craft. Since my daughter had used them before, I just asked her to color in the I and she knew just what to do. Once she finished, I gave her some other paper to continue coloring with since she enjoys them so much.

Then, it is time to let the paper dry before moving on to the next step.

Adding the Iguana’s Body Parts:

Next, you need to make stamps for the iguana’s body parts to add ink (our next I) to your I is for iguana craft. You can make your own stamps by following my instructions here. To get the shapes to trace onto my foam I used Playful Kraft’s I is for iguana cut and paste craft. I used their head, tongue, eye, and tail as is. Then, I cut their spine into a single triangle and made their feet symmetric. For some of the bigger pieces, I had to adapt my handmade stamps by gluing multiple pieces of pool noodle together.

Once you have made the stamps, you can show your child where to stamp them on their I letter. I convinced my daughter to use green ink for the head and tail, but let her use whatever color ink she wanted for the rest.

Conclusion of Our I is for Iguana Craft:

I think that our I is for iguana craft is one of our cutest alphabet crafts yet. It is very obvious what it is supposed to be unlike some of our others. My daughter got to learn about both ice painting and stamping with ink which she loved. She enjoyed the chance to do both again to make this iguana. Overall, it was a lot of fun and I am thankful for the fun ideas it gave us.
