I know, I know, I went a little overboard with all the ‘B’ words in my title. But this bee craft is made with bee-ads, is very bee-asic, and is so much fun that I guess it’s the bee-st. All joking aside, my three year old daughter did have lots of fun making her bead bee craft. She got a bug hunting kit for her birthday which has made her very excited for all of the bugs to “wake up” for the summer. Doing this craft was the closest she could get while we wait for summer to come.

How to Make a Bee Craft With Beads:

Supplies:

Creating:

I started by printing out a free bee picture. You can also draw your own or, if your child is older, have them draw their own. I also filled two small cups with yellow and white beads. This kept them on the table and out of range of her younger brother.

Then, I had my daughter glue the beads on. We talked about which parts of the bee were yellow and which parts were white. I didn’t have any black beads on hand, but you can use them too. While she glued, I cut black pipe cleaners and shaped them to match the antennae, stinger, and mouth on the picture. Once I finished, my daughter glued them and googly eyes on where they belonged.

Once my daughter decided she had glued enough beads on, we let it dry. She started out with very reasonable amounts of glue, but by the end it had a lot of extra glue on it. After it dried, I cut out the bee and hung it up on the art clothesline I made her.

Conclusion of Our Bead Bee Craft:

This was a very quick craft. It didn’t take long to gather what we needed to start and it didn’t take long to actually do. My daughter did enjoy doing it though and it was a good excuse to talk about bees. I think doing the same thing with other pictures could be a great way to learn about all sorts of things. In a way, it was just another way to add color to a picture. If not bugs, what are you most excited about for the summer? You should also check out these super interesting beekeeping videos.
