V is for Vulture Craft: Painting With Velcro

There are a lot of unique ways to get your child painting. Way back when we were on the letter A, my daughter used apples as paint brushes. V was a hard letter to come up with craft supplies for and we ended back at using a unique paintbrush. For this V is for vulture craft, we painted using Velcro. My four year old daughter and two year old son had so much fun painting theirs, I had to do one too.

One of the extra fun things about this take on painting was the two different sides of the Velcro. Painting with the hook side gave a different texture than the loop side. My son completely ignored this, my daughter played with a bit, and I really enjoyed it.

How to Make a V is for Vulture Craft Using Velcro

Supplies:

Prepping Your V is for Vulture Craft:

First, print out a V shaped vulture. Here is the one I drew that you can download for free (I won’t even make you scroll or subscribe).

Then, prep an area for your kids to paint on a plastic tablecloth. Cut several pieces of Velcro for your child to paint with. Next, squirt a bit of each color of paint (pink, yellow, and black) on to a plate or piece of parchment paper. I initially put this in between my two kids and then ended up giving them their own paint setup. I also used acrylic paint, but since their hands will get pretty messy, a more washable paint would be a better idea.

Painting With Velcro:

Now it is time to paint. Have your child dip their Velcro into the paint and then rub it on their paper. Show them the different texture the smooth side gives vs. the rough side. When they want to switch colors, give them a new piece of Velcro to use. Let your child create how they want to. My four year old wanted the right colors in the right places. My two year old just enjoyed spreading paint all over.

That’s it. It is really simple, but also lots of fun. If your child doesn’t want to stop, give them blank paper and other paint colors to keep painting with Velcro.

Conclusion of Our V is for Vulture Craft

This was one of my favorite alphabet crafts. It was very simple, but my kids (and I) all really enjoyed it. Painting is always a hit and this gave such a fun new twist to it. They did get messy, but it was easy enough to wash their hands afterwards. I will definitely keep having them paint with different objects to help keep painting exciting. What is the most unique thing your child has painted with?
