We just started reading the Magic Tree House books to my three year old daughter a chapter at a time. The first one got her interested in dinosaurs. So, I decided to do a dinosaur for our D craft. To stick with the D theme, we used duct tape to make the D shaped dinosaur and dot markers to decorate. I just made my kids dot markers and this D is for dinosaur craft was the perfect way to try them out. And it was a simple enough craft that my one year old got to make one too.

How to Make a D is for Dinosaur Craft Using Letter D Craft Supplies

Materials:

Prep for D is for Dinosaur Craft:

Before my kids started helping with this fun craft, I prepped all of the duct tape. First, I made a D out of duct tape on construction paper. This was harder than I expected. I ended up using a lot of small strips cut at angles to get the right shape. Sorry for the bad lighting in the below pictures. Then, I cut all my dinosaur parts out of duct tape. I cut a head, a tail, four legs, and a bunch of spikes for each kid’s dinosaur. Next, I laid each piece upside down on a piece of cardstock, so my kids could put them on by themselves.

Making the D Shaped Dinosaur:

Now, it was time to get my kids involved. I sat in between them so that I could help them both. Then, I handed each of them their dinosaur’s body parts one at a time. Since they both love stickers, they knew exactly how to place them on the paper. I pointed where on the D is for dinosaur craft they should go for my daughter.

But, my one and half year old son got bored a few pieces in and started sticking them on himself instead.

Decorating the D is for Dinosaur Craft With Dot Markers:

Once the duct tape dinosaurs were complete, it was time to decorate them with dot markers. I had just made homemade dot markers and my daughter had been begging all morning to try them out. I showed my daughter how to use them and she quickly got the hang of it. Then, I gave my son one at a time under close supervision.

They both had a great time decorating their D is for dinosaur craft. Duct tape is definitely not the best medium for dot markers since it is so slick. But, once it dried all the way it did stick.

Conclusion of D is for Dinosaur Craft

I loved that this was an alphabet craft that both of my kids could do. Obviously my toddler son couldn’t care less about the letter aspect, but he still had a lot of fun. My preschool daughter loved both talking about the letter D and doing the craft. We hung both of their dinosaurs up on our homemade art clothesline in the dining room. My daughter has brought up the dinosaurs every time she sees them. She has decided that my son’s is a fish instead of a dinosaur. How did your kid’s D is for dinosaur craft turn out?
