Looking at fish in tanks is interesting. But, for me if an aquarium has a place that fish are swimming over you, that is so much more exciting. I love the feeling of being fully immersed (and dry). When my daughter wanted an under the sea birthday party, I came across this picture of an overhead fish silhouette party decoration. As soon as I saw it, I knew I needed to do something similar.

Unfortunately, the picture that I found was for a long hallway and had no directions. It was simple enough, but I did have a few questions. So, I experimented and adapted it slightly to work for inside my house. I hope these directions make it even easier for you to make a splash with your own really cool underwater decoration for your party, VBS, or other ocean themed get together.

How to Make an Overhead Fish Silhouette Party Decoration

Supplies:

Creating:

To make this party decoration, I first printed off a bunch of fish silhouette pictures. I found fish, shark, and stingray silhouettes for free from Clipart Library. My printer was having issues and only some of them printed out fully black. The paper blocked enough of the light that it didn’t end up mattering what color they were.

Then, I cut out each ocean animal and taped it on a plastic blue tablecloth using packing tape.

The last step was to hang it. The picture I found had it hung up in the hallway of a school or something. My house has no true hallways so I knew that wouldn’t work. I ended up hanging it above my stairs. This worked extra well since I live in a bilevel making this the first thing people saw when they walked in. To hang it, I taped each corner of the tablecloth to reinforce it. Then, I used push pins to attach each corner.

Conclusion of My Overhead Fish Silhouette Party Decoration

I loved that this was the first thing people saw when they walked in. I worried it would block too much light, but it didn’t and immediately set the scene for an under the sea party. It was the quickest, easiest, and cheapest decoration I made for my daughter’s under the sea party.
