Simple Kid’s Party Food for a Garbage Truck Birthday

I have a love hate relationship with theming food for my kids’ birthday parties. I love the challenge of coming with creative ideas and a lot of my ideas have turned out really cute. But, since food needs to be fresh it is something that I have to put off until the last minute. So, it tends go from being fun to stressful. But, this kid’s party food idea for my son’s garbage truck birthday party was much simpler. Instead of each food being themed, I put all the foods I wanted on an already themed area. It was much easier and I didn’t have as much to do the morning of the party.

My son’s party was garbage truck themed and our food setup reflected that. But, this idea would work well for lots of themes. With a few slight tweaks you could use it for cars, firetrucks, construction, or anything on wheels. I was inspired by a two fast party Pinterest pin, which proves how versatile it is.

How to Simply Theme Kid’s Party Food

Supplies:

Painting the Tablecloth:

To start, take a black tablecloth and cut it to fit your counter or whatever area you are serving your food. Then, take the trays, plates, or whatever you will serve your kid’s party food on and place them where you want them. I used two pizza pans and two tiered trays.

Next, paint road strips down the middle of the area between each of your dishes. I realize that yellow makes more sense, but white just seemed like it would look better. Do this with plenty of time before your party for the paint to dry.

Adding Extra Decorations:

Once your paint dries, it is time to add extra decorations. Place a toy vehicle that matches your theme on the tablecloth to make it look like it is driving down the street. My husband 3d printed me this trash truck along with some little trash bins.

Then, add all other decorations, plates, napkins, and silverware. First, my son helped me pick out trash truck themed plates and napkins. Next, I placed green forks in a trash can shaped container. Lastly, my husband also 3d printed me flies that I placed on the food once I put it out. You can buy fake flies or fake ants from Amazon to joke your food is trash for the trash truck.

Last Minute Work:

All you need to do the morning of your party is get your food prepped on your trays or plates and set it out. So all I had to do was wash fruit and cut cheese slices in quarters. It was much easier than making a crab from a bell pepper or making all food in the shape of a ball.

Conclusion of Making a Kid’s Party Food Road

I was really happy with this idea. I still had fun theming my son’s food around trash trucks, but I had a lot less things to do the morning of his party. My son liked the trash truck on the road and was happy that all his favorite foods (fruit and chips) were served. The fake flies got a lot of comments and laughs. What foods do you like serving at your kid’s parties?
