Playing with dough, painting, and gluing! My 2.5 year old son and 4 year old daughter love doing all three of these things. So, they loved making this S is for snake craft. We used the S supplies of salt dough and sequins to make S shaped snakes. It was a hit with both of them. I don’t know what else to say about this simple and fun craft, so let’s get into how to make it.

How to Make an S is for Snake Craft With S Supplies
Materials:
Making the Salt Dough Snake:
First, your child needs to make the S shaped snake from salt dough. Mix up your salt dough using a 1:1:2 ratio of water, salt, and flour. This is great stirring practice for a toddler or preschooler. Then, take turns kneading it until it comes together in a dough.
Now that you have your salt dough, show your child how to roll it into a snake shape.
Then, they can add details like a head and tongue to it. Next, place it on a silicone mat (or parchment paper) on a cookie sheet. Help them shape it into an S shape.
Lastly, cook the snake at 250°F until it is hard and slightly browned. Check it about every 30 minutes. If you need, here are more detailed instructions on making salt dough and other ideas on how to use it.
Decorating Your S is for Snake Craft:
Once the snake is cooked and cooled, it is time to paint it. My children love an excuse to paint. They used green paint on the body and my daughter decided hers needed a pink head and blue eyes.
After the paint dries, coat it with Mod Podge. This will help seal the snake and make it last longer. I forgot to do this step until after my kids put sequins on it, but it really should be done now. Since I didn’t want them accidently messing up their sequins, I did this step, but if it is done beforehand, they can do it.
To finish off this S is for snake craft, let your child glue green sequins on it. This is another S craft supply and it adds a fun sparkle to the snakes.
