This very simple pom pom craft is probably too straightforward to even need a post. But, it was a huge hit with my two year old son and so I wanted to share it with you anyways. It is a great reminder that simple can be just as fulfilling to a child. And what parent doesn’t love an activity that requires almost no prep or instructions?
One evening my son was sick and had a rough day. He needed something chill to do and chill isn’t normally in his vocabulary. My daughter was gone at Bible class with my husband, so I wanted to do something special with him. We came up with this super simple craft and he loved it.
How to Make a Pom Pom Craft
Materials:
Prep:
Before my son could start, we needed a picture for him to “color” with pom poms. He doesn’t have many words yet, but puppy is one of them. So, I asked him if he wanted a picture of a dog. He enthusiastically told me yes. I searched for puppy coloring pages on my phone and let him pick one. He choose one from Mom Loves Best. Then, I printed it on cardstock and we were ready to go.
Making:
Now it was time to glue. I gave him a bag of pom poms and let him pick which one he wanted. Then, he held it out for me to put glue on. Lastly, he stuck it on his paper. That was it. Very simple, but for whatever reason he absolutely loved it. If he wasn’t feeling sick, this would have been a great excuse to work on naming colors or counting.
We glued pom poms for a long time before I convinced my son to go do something else.
Then, before long, he was asking to go back to our table and work on it more. So, we glued more and more pom poms. This is when he realized he could glue them on top of previous pom poms and not just on the paper. I don’t think he would have stopped on his own, but I eventually told him it was time for bed.
Conclusion of Our Pom Pom Craft
This is by far the simplest craft I have ever posted, but it was such a hit. We hung it up on our art clothesline next to his sister’s alphabet crafts. He is very proud of it. I will definitely be looking for more straightforward crafts like this to do with my kids. What is the simplest craft your kids have loved doing?
